High School Credit Embedded

Dual Enrollment/College Credit Opportunities

34 plus credits are available.  

Students will have the opportunity to receive college credit in Medical Terminology, Phlebotomy and Infection Control and Medical Math (must fill out enrollment form to receive credits).

Professional Certification Opportunities

Year One
Juniors enrolled in this program will complete year one of the Medical Assistant program. If students continue into year two and complete all requirements, they will be able to take the National Certification Exam and become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant with job placement at local healthcare facilities. Students who do not continue into year two may still earn several certifications and be able to enter the medical workforce. 

Year One Certification Opportunities

  • CPR/AED certification

  • Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)

  • Stop the Bleed certification.

Year Two

In this second-year students will have the opportunity to earn several more certifications.  If students have not taken year one and enroll in the program, they MAY NOT be able to complete the Medical Assisting training but will be able to earn several certifications.

Year Two Certification Opportunities

CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant- National certification); must complete both years to earn certification.

Meet Candi Farris, a dedicated Medical Assisting instructor at UTC. She brings over two decades of experience in healthcare, including the last 3 years as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA). Her genuine passion for helping people shines through in her commitment to both her students and patients.

Candi's decision to teach stems from her desire to share expertise and shape future medical professionals. As a medical professional, she understands the importance of guiding aspiring individuals towards fulfilling careers in medicine.

Outside the classroom, Candi, a proud mother of two wonderful girls, finds joy in family time, photography, and outdoor adventures with her beloved dog, Miley.

Meet Deb Lancaster, a Medical Assistant instructor at UTC with a passion for healthcare and education. With several years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Deb has gained a diverse background in the medical field. Among her responsibilities as a nurse is patient education and addressing their needs.  During her years as a manager of a Memory Care unit, she took responsibility for educating staff while overseeing the well-being of residents and their families.  Sharing the knowledge gained from her healthcare journey with students is rewarding. 

In her current role, Deb Lancaster brings a wealth of experience and a strong educational foundation.  She holds certifications in Alzheimer’s, Supportive Care, Phlebotomy, and more.  Her nursing degree was earned from NMVTI (NMCC).
