Pre-Requisites for Admission into the Program

● Biology or Intro to Chemistry 

● Strong basic math skills 

● Ability to read, comprehend & write at a high school level 

● Able to meet the physical demands of the program

Dual Enrollment/College Credit Opportunities

As part of the EMR/EMT Program second year curriculum, students enroll in Anatomy & Physiology I and Anatomy & Physiology II courses through Eastern Maine Community College and can earn up to 8 college credits as an Early College student.  Time is provided for cooperating learning group work and tutoring support is also available through the UTC Academic Center.

Theresa Cousins is a seasoned EMS educator and Paramedic dedicated to excellence in Emergency Medical Services. With a wealth of experience, she shapes future EMS professionals, prioritizing top-tier patient care and safety.

Starting her EMS journey in 1998, Theresa co-founded the Isle au Haut Rescue squad and obtained various certifications, including Wilderness EMT and Paramedic. She holds DOE CTE Instructor credentials, a Maine Level 3 Paramedic Instructor License, and a National Level 2 Instructor Certification.

As UTC's EMS instructor backed with over 20 years at Eastern Maine Community College, Theresa imparts expertise in BLS, ACLS, PALS, Mass Casualty Training, and more. In 2022, she received the Maine EMS Excellence Award, highlighting her leadership in Maine’s EMS education, driven by her passion for patient care and community safety.
