What is a CTE Exploratory Program for 9th and 10th graders?

We introduce high school students to a variety of career paths and technical skills. This type of program allows students to explore different industries, professions, and vocational areas before diving into a to a specific 11th and 12th grade programs at United Technologies Center.

Key features of a CTE Exploratory Program include:

  1. Diverse Exposure: Students get a glimpse into various industries such as technology, business, science, healthcare, horticulture, automotive, construction, hospitality, medical fields and more.

  2. Hands-On Learning: The program typically involves practical, hands-on activities that allow students to experience the day-to-day tasks associated with different professions using laser cutters, 3D printers, tools, circuitry and a wide range of materials.

  3. Skill Development: Students have the opportunity to build foundational technical skills relevant to different industries.

  4. Career Guidance: CTE Exploratory Programs often include guidance and counseling to help students identify their interests, strengths, and potential career paths.

  5. Industry Connections: We offer interactions with professionals in different fields, providing insights into the excitement and skills needed to succeed in different careers.

  7. Career Planning: We assist students in developing a preliminary career exploration plan based on their interests, skills and development and experiences in this exploratory program.

Meet Jameson Ploch, Bangor High School’s CTE Exploratory Program Instructor. Jameson has taught and worked in Special education at Bangor for the past six school years and is now making a transition to CTE. He has worked in various maintenance roles during summer breaks and weekends. In addition to teaching, Jameson has coached Swimming, Tennis, and Soccer at Bangor High and he has advised various clubs as well.
